The DENIAL Twist

THERE IS NO AMERICAN VERSION OF DARK WATER.
Please for the love of Buddha and all that is holy...RUN, don't walk as far away from DARK WATER as you can. Head to your local bootleg DVD vendor and buy the original JAPANESE film. A dirty dive into the tension and creepiness of true Asian Horror awaits you.
JENNIFER CONNELLY tries very hard to makes the AMERICAN version work but it fails miserably with its cheap scares and cheesy back story tacked on to give the characters more depth. The subtlety and ambiguity of J-HORROR is what makes it superior to these American rip-offs. Long winded, RING-like frights prevail over the story of a creepy little girl in a yellow rain coat.
Nicole paid for my ticket and she has promised to get me back by having me take her to some horrible movie. I deserve it. The ONLY good thing about this film was the preview for THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE, which looks infinitely more frightening.
So the verdict: AMERICANS can do the God-fearin' stuff well, but leave the Ghost stories to our Asian counterparts.
